(Chapter 36)
Central Provident Fund (Self-employed Persons) (Amendment) Regulations 1997
In exercise of the powers conferred by section 77(1)(e) of the Central Provident Fund Act, the Minister for Labour, after consultation with the Central Provident Fund Board, hereby makes the following Regulations:
Citation and commencement
1.  These Regulations may be cited as the Central Provident Fund (Self-Employed Persons) (Amendment) Regulations 1997 and shall be deemed to have come into operation on 1st January 1997.
Amendment of regulation 2
2.  Regulation 2 of the Central Provident Fund (Self-Employed Persons) Regulations (Rg 25) (referred to in these Regulations as the principal Regulations) is amended by inserting, immediately after the definition of “notice of computation”, the following definition:
“ “relevant public officer” means a person who is or was on the pensionable establishment in any of the public services and continues to be eligible to receive medical benefits under the terms of his service from the Government upon his retirement, but does not include a person on the Medisave-cum-Subsidised Outpatient (MSO) Scheme as described in the Government Instruction Manual relating to medical benefits;”.
Amendment of regulation 4
3.  Paragraph (1) of regulation 4 of the principal Regulations is deleted and the following paragraphs substituted therefor:
(1)  Subject to paragraph (1A), every self-employed person to whom these Regulations apply shall pay contributions into the Fund on his own behalf at the applicable rate specified in the second column of the Schedule in respect of the period specified in the first column.
(1A)  Every self-employed person to whom these Regulations apply and who is a relevant public officer for the whole or any part of 1997 or any subsequent relevant year shall, in respect of that year, pay contributions into the Fund on his own behalf equivalent to 6% of his income for that year or such other amount as may be determined by the Minister for Health.”.
Amendment of regulation 10
4.  Regulation 10(1) of the principal Regulations is amended —
(a)by deleting the word "and" at the end of sub-paragraph (d); and
(b)by deleting the full-stop at the end of sub-paragraph (e) and substituting a semi-colon, and by inserting immediately thereafter the following sub-paragraphs:
(f)$360 in respect of the period from 1st January to 31st December 1997 if the self-employed person has not attained 35 years of age before 1st January 1997 or is a relevant public officer for the whole or any part of that period;
(g)$420 in respect of the period from 1st January to 31st December 1997 if the self-employed person has attained 35 years of age before 1st January 1997 and is not a relevant public officer for the whole or any part of that period; and
(h)$360 in respect of any relevant year after 1997 if he is a relevant public officer for the whole or any part of that relevant year.”.
Amendment of Schedule
5.  The Schedule to the principal Regulations is amended by inserting, immediately after item 5, the following item:
“6.1st January to 31st December 1997
(a)For a self-employed person who has not attained 35 years of age before 1st January 1997 —
 An amount equivalent to 6% of the income for that year subject to a maximum of $4,320.
 
(b)For a self-employed person who has attained 35 years of age before 1st January 1997 —
 An amount equivalent to 7% of the income for that year subject to a maximum of $5,040.”.
