Competition (Block Exemption for
Liner Shipping Agreements)
(Amendment) Order 2024
In exercise of the powers conferred by section 36 of the Competition Act 2004, the Minister for Trade and Industry makes the following Order:
Citation and commencement
1.—(1)  This Order is the Competition (Block Exemption for Liner Shipping Agreements) (Amendment) Order 2024 and, except for paragraph 2, comes into operation on 1 January 2025.
(2)  Paragraph 2 comes into operation on 28 October 2024.
Amendment of paragraph 2
2.  In the Competition (Block Exemption for Liner Shipping Agreements) Order (O 1), in paragraph 2, replace “31 December 2024” with “31 December 2029”.
Amendment of paragraph 3
3.  In the Competition (Block Exemption for Liner Shipping Agreements) Order, in paragraph 3(1), in the definition of “liner shipping services” —
(a)in paragraph (a), replace “and” at the end with “but”; and
(b)in paragraph (b), replace “includes” with “does not include”.
Saving and transitional provision
4.—(1)  This paragraph applies to a liner shipping agreement as defined in paragraph 3(1) of the Competition (Block Exemption for Liner Shipping Agreements) Order in force immediately before 1 January 2025.
(2)  Despite paragraph 3, where a liner shipping agreement is entered into on or before 31 December 2024, then, for the period between 1 January 2025 and 31 December 2025 (both dates inclusive), the Competition (Block Exemption for Liner Shipping Agreements) Order applies to and in relation to the liner shipping agreement as if paragraph 3 of this Order had not been made.
