Merchant Shipping Act
(Chapter 179)
Merchant Shipping (Property of Deceased Seamen) (Amendment) Regulations 2005
In exercise of the powers conferred by section 87(1) of the Merchant Shipping Act, the Maritime and Port Authority of Singapore, with the approval of the Minister for Transport, hereby makes the following Regulations:
Citation and commencement
1.  These Regulations may be cited as the Merchant Shipping (Property of Deceased Seamen) (Amendment) Regulations 2005 and shall come into operation on 1st January 2006.
Amendment of regulation 8
2.  Regulation 8 of the Merchant Shipping (Property of Deceased Seamen) Regulations (Rg 23) is amended by deleting paragraph (3) and substituting the following paragraph:
“(3)  If any claim is not established to the satisfaction of the Director, the claimant may apply by originating summons to the High Court, and that Court, after taking evidence either orally or on affidavit, shall make such order on the application as seems just.”.
