Infectious Diseases Act
(Chapter 137)
Infectious Diseases (Notification of Infectious Diseases) Regulations 2008
In exercise of the powers conferred by section 73(1) of the Infectious Diseases Act, the Minister for Health hereby makes the following Regulations:
Citation and commencement
1.  These Regulations may be cited as the Infectious Diseases (Notification of Infectious Diseases) Regulations 2008 and shall come into operation on 19th December 2008.
Definition
2.  In these Regulations, “electronic notification system” means the electronic notification system set up for the notification of infectious diseases at http://www.cdlens.moh.gov.sg
Form of notification
3.—(1)  Every notification of an infectious disease to be given to the Director under section 6(1), (2) and (3) of the Act shall be in the appropriate form set out in the electronic notification system.
(2)  The Director may make any modification or amendment necessary to any form set out in the electronic notification system for the purpose of facilitating the submission of that form.
Person to be notified
4.  For the purposes of section 6(1), (2) and (3) of the Act, notification of an infectious disease shall be treated as having been given to the Director if the notification is given —
(a)in the case of an infectious disease referred to in Part I or II of the Schedule, to the Director of the Communicable Diseases Division, Ministry of Health;
(b)in the case of Acquired Immune Deficiency Syndrome and Human Immunodeficiency Virus Infection, to the Head of the Department of Clinical Epidemiology, Communicable Disease Centre;
(c)in the case of Leprosy, to the Director of the National Skin Centre;
(d)in the case of Tuberculosis, to the Director of the TB Control Unit;
(e)in the case of an infectious disease referred to in Part IV of the Schedule, to the Head of the Department of Sexually Transmitted Infections Control Clinic; and
(f)in the case of a death from an infectious disease referred to in Part I of the Schedule, to the Director of the Communicable Diseases Division, Ministry of Health.
Time and manner of notification
5.  For the purposes of section 6(1), (2) and (3) of the Act, notification of an infectious disease shall be given by facsimile transmission or through the electronic notification system —
(a)in the case of an infectious disease referred to in Part I of the Schedule, not later than 24 hours from the time of diagnosis of such disease;
(b)in the case of an infectious disease referred to in Part II, III or IV of the Schedule, not later than 72 hours from the time of diagnosis of such disease; and
(c)in the case of a death from an infectious disease referred to in Part I of the Schedule, not later than 24 hours from the time of death from such disease.
Revocation
6.  The Infectious Diseases (Notification of Infectious Diseases) Regulations 2004 (G.N. No. S 177/2004) are revoked.
