Maritime and Port Authority of Singapore (Registration and Employment of Seamen) Regulations 1997
In exercise of the powers conferred by section 40 of the Maritime and Port Authority of Singapore Act 1996, the Maritime and Port Authority of Singapore, with the approval of the Minister for Communications, hereby makes the following Regulations:
PART I
PRELIMINARY
Citation and commencement
1.  These Regulations may be cited as the Maritime and Port Authority of Singapore (Registration and Employment of Seamen) Regulations 1997 and shall come into operation on 9th April 1997.
Definitions
2.  In these Regulations, unless the context otherwise requires —
“certificate” means the certificate issued by the Authority to a person who has successfully completed a course of training approved by the Authority;
“Director” means the Director of Marine and includes any officer authorised by the Authority to act in that behalf;
“prescribed fee” means the fee prescribed in the Maritime and Port Authority of Singapore (Scale of Dues, Rates and General Fees) Notification 1997 (G.N. No. S 190/97);
“registration card” means a registration card issued to a registered seaman under regulation 5(3);
“Registration Committee” means the Registration Committee established by the Authority under regulation 3(1);
“registered seaman” means a seaman who is registered under these Regulations;
“seamen’s register” means the register of seamen established and maintained by the Authority under regulation 15;
“select” means to select registered seamen for engagement in any ship and “selection” shall be construed accordingly.
