Citation |
1. These Rules may be cited as the Singapore Academy of Law Rules. |
Definition |
2. In these Rules, unless the context otherwise requires, “committee” means the Library and Publications Committee, the Committee on Legal Education and Studies, the Membership and Rules Committee, the Law Reform Committee, the Endowment Committee, the House and Social Committee, the Professional Affairs Committee, the Board of Commissioners for Oaths and Notaries Public, the LawNet Management Committee or any other committee or board appointed by the Senate to carry out such duties as may be directed by the Senate but shall not include the Executive Committee referred to in rule 5. 4.—(1) Where any member will, for any period of not less than 6 months —

Executive Committee |
5.—(1) There shall be an Executive Committee consisting of —

Library and Publications Committee |
6.—(1) There shall be a Library and Publications Committee which shall consist of a chairman and not less than 6 other members appointed by the Senate.

Committee on Legal Education and Studies |
7.—(1) There shall be a Committee on Legal Education and Studies which shall consist of a chairman and not less than 8 other members appointed by the Senate.

Membership and Rules Committee |
8.—(1) There shall be a Membership and Rules Committee which shall consist of a chairman and not less than 5 other members appointed by the Senate.

Law Reform Committee |
9.—(1) There shall be a Law Reform Committee which shall consist of a chairman and not less than 5 other members appointed by the Senate.

Endowment Committee |
10.—(1) There shall be an Endowment Committee which shall consist of a chairman and not less than 7 other members appointed by the Senate.

House and Social Committee |
11.—(1) There shall be a House and Social Committee which shall consist of a chairman and not less than 5 other members appointed by the Senate.

Professional Affairs Committee |
11A.—(1) There shall be a Professional Affairs Committee appointed by the Senate which shall consist of —

11B.—(1) There shall be a Board of Commissioners for Oaths and Notaries Public (referred to in this rule as the Board) appointed by the Senate which shall consist of —

11C.—(1) There shall be a LawNet Management Committee which shall consist of —

Quorum |
12. The quorum for a meeting of any committee shall be 4 members of that committee. |
Delegation of duties |
13. The Executive Committee and any committee may at any time appoint a sub-committee consisting of members of their committee and other members of the Academy to perform or carry out such tasks as may be directed by the Executive Committee or the committee, as the case may be. |
Reservation of facilities |
14.—(1) The House and Social Committee may, at any time and from time to time by notice, reserve the whole or any part of the Academy’s premises for any purpose whatsoever for such period or periods and subject to such provisions and limitations as to entry therein whether by members or any other person or class of persons and whether upon terms and conditions or otherwise as the House and Social Committee may think fit.

Resolutions in writing |
15.—(1) The President or a Vice-President of the Academy may, if he thinks fit, propose any resolution for the consideration of the Executive Committee without convening a meeting by giving a copy of the proposed resolution in writing to all members of the Executive Committee present in Singapore.

Facilities of Academy |
16.—(1) Members and guests shall at all times use the facilities of the Academy in such manner so as not to interfere with the reasonable comfort of, or be a nuisance to, other members of the Academy and so as not to damage the Academy’s property.

Complaints |
17. All complaints from members shall be made in writing to the Executive Secretary of the Academy and if he is unable to deal with them he shall submit them to the Membership and Rules Committee whose decision shall be final. In no instance shall an employee of the Academy be reprimanded directly by a member other than by a member of the Membership and Rules Committee. |
Expulsion of members |
18.—(1) Where the Membership and Rules Committee is of the opinion that a member is guilty of conduct which renders him unfit to be a member or would bring the Academy into disrepute, the Membership and Rules Committee may submit a report to the Senate with a recommendation that the membership of such a member be terminated by the Senate.
