Sale of Food Act

Sale of Food (Prohibition of Chewing Gum) Regulations 2003
In exercise of the powers conferred by section 56(1) of the Sale of Food Act, the Minister for National Development hereby makes the following Regulations:
Citation and commencement
1.  These Regulations may be cited as the Sale of Food (Prohibition of Chewing Gum) Regulations 2003 and shall come into operation on 1st January 2004.
Sale or advertisement for sale of chewing gum prohibited
2.—(1)  Except as provided in paragraph (2), the sale or advertisement for sale of any chewing gum is prohibited.
(2)  Paragraph (1) shall not apply to the sale or advertisement of any chewing gum in respect of which a product licence has been granted under the Medicines Act (Cap. 176).
(3)  In this regulation, “chewing gum” means the substance usually known as chewing gum, bubble gum or dental chewing gum, or any like substance prepared from a gum base of vegetable or synthetic origin and intended for chewing.
Penalty
3.  Any person who contravenes regulation 2 shall be guilty of an offence and shall be liable on conviction to a fine not exceeding $2,000.
Revocation
4.  The Food (Prohibition of Chewing Gum) Regulations (Rg 2) are revoked.
Savings
5.  Nothing in these Regulations shall be construed to limit or in any way affect the operation of any other written law.
