Bintang Temasek
(the Star of Temasek) Rules 1996
The President is pleased to approve the institution of a Decoration to be styled the Bintang Temasek or the Star of Temasek, the award of which shall be governed by the following Rules:
1.  These Rules may be cited as the Bintang Temasek (the Star of Temasek) Rules 1996 and shall come into operation on 2nd August 1996.
2.  The Decoration shall be designated and styled the Bintang Temasek or the Star of Temasek.
3.—(1)  The Badge of the Star of Temasek may be awarded to any member of the Singapore Armed Forces, the Singapore Police Force or the Singapore Civil Defence Force who has performed acts of exceptional courage and skill or exhibited conspicuous devotion to duty in circumstances of extreme danger.
(2)  The Badge may also be awarded posthumously.
4.  The Badge shall be awarded by the President acting in accordance with the recommendation of the Prime Minister.
5.  Every recommendation for the award of the Decoration shall be submitted with such description and conclusive proof as the circumstances of the case may allow, and attestation of the act as the Minister for Defence may think requisite.
6.  The Badge of the Star of Temasek shall be silver-gilt and shall consist, on the obverse side, of a configured Maltese cross with 4 equal limbs superimposed upon a laurel wreath in green enamel which in turn is superimposed upon 2 crossed swords. The centre of the cross shall bear a laurel wreath in green enamel encircling a five-pointed star embossed on white enamel. Beneath the laurel wreath there shall be a scroll bearing the inscription “BINTANG TEMASEK”. The reverse side of the badge shall bear the State Arms.
7.  The Badge shall be of the design as set out in the Schedule.
8.  The Badge shall be worn on the left side of the outer garment suspended from a ribbon. The ribbon shall be purple in the centre of which shall be a white band flanked by a narrow white stripe on each side. In the centre of the white band shall be a red stripe.
9.  On those occasions when only the ribbon is worn, a silver miniature replica of the Badge shall be affixed to the centre of the ribbon.
10.—(1)  Where any act deserving of the award of the Badge is performed by a person to whom the Decoration has already been conferred, the act may be recognised by the award of a Bar to the Badge.
(2)  The Bar shall be silver-gilt and shall be attached to the ribbon by which the Badge is suspended.
(3)  There shall be no limit to the number of Bars that may be awarded to the holder of the Badge.
(4)  For each Bar awarded, a small replica of the silver-gilt star may be added to the ribbon when worn alone.
11.  The names of the persons to whom the Badge or a Bar thereto is awarded shall be published in the Gazette and a register of such names shall be kept in the office of the Prime Minister.
12.—(1)  The President may, acting in accordance with the recommendation of the Prime Minister, cancel and annul the award of the Decoration or a Bar thereto to any person and thereupon the name of such person shall be deleted from the register referred to in rule 11.
(2)  The President may, acting in accordance with the advice of the Prime Minister, restore the Decoration or a Bar thereto to any person whose award has been previously cancelled or annulled.
13.—(1)  The Bintang Temasek (The Star of Temasek) Rules 1970 (G.N. No. S 198/70) (hereafter referred to as the revoked Rules) are revoked.
(2)  Any person to whom the Star of Temasek and any Bar thereto have been awarded under the revoked Rules is deemed to have been awarded the Decoration and Bar under these Rules.
