Bintang Bakti Masyarakat (The Public Service Star) Rules 1996 |

1. These Rules may be cited as the Bintang Bakti Masyarakat (The Public Service Star) Rules 1996 and shall come into operation on 2nd August 1996. |
2. The Medal shall be designated and styled the Bintang Bakti Masyarakat or The Public Service Star. |
3. The Public Service Star may be awarded to any person —

4. The Medal shall consist of 2 concentric rings having, on the obverse side, a five-pointed star with star-burst design. In the centre, there shall be embossed a circular shield bearing a crescent and 5 stars. At the bottom half of the outer ring there shall be a scroll bearing the inscription “BINTANG BAKTI MASYARAKAT”. The inner ring shall be embossed with a laurel wreath. The reverse side of the Medal shall bear the State Arms. |
5. The Medal shall be of the design as set out in the Schedule. |
6. The Medal shall be worn on the left side of the outer garment suspended by a ribbon. The ribbon shall be grey with a white centre stripe flanked immediately on each side by a red stripe, a thin white stripe, another red stripe and finally, a thin white stripe, in that order. |
8. The names of the persons to whom the Medal or a Bar thereto is awarded shall be published in the Gazette and a register of such names shall be kept in the office of the Prime Minister. |
9. The President may forfeit any Medal or Bar awarded to any person under these Rules if the person is convicted of a criminal offence or is guilty of misconduct or disloyalty to Singapore. |
10.—(1) The Rules governing the award of the Bintang Bakti Masyarakat (The Public Service Star) (hereafter referred to as the revoked Rules) published as Notification No. S 93 in the Subsidiary Legislation Supplement to the Gazette of 31st May 1963 are revoked.
