Citation and commencement |
1. These Rules may be cited as the Singapore Armed Forces Overseas Service Medal Rules 2009 and shall come into operation on 20th July 2009. |
Designation of Medal |
2. A medal to be designated and styled the Singapore Armed Forces Overseas Service Medal (referred to in these Rules as the Medal) may be awarded in accordance with these Rules. |

Non-completion of qualifying period of service |
4. Notwithstanding rule 3(1), a member of the Singapore Armed Forces who was engaged in any service referred to therein, but whose period of such service falls short of the qualifying period referred to therein, shall qualify for the award of the Medal, if —

Medal, Star, Bar and Bar (Enhanced) to be awarded by Armed Forces Council |
5.—(1) The Medal, Star, Bar and Bar (Enhanced) shall be awarded by the Armed Forces Council.

6.—(1) The Medal shall be in the shape of an 8-pointed star which shall not be larger than 40 millimetres across.

8.—(1) A Bar (Enhanced) awarded for any operation shall —

9.—(1) A Star shall be represented by a 5-pointed star no larger than 10 millimetres in diameter.

10.—(1) The Medal shall be worn on the left side of the outer garment and suspended by a ribbon.

Publication and registration of award |
11. The names of the persons to whom the Medal or any Star, Bar or Bar (Enhanced) is awarded shall be published in the Formation or Unit orders, and a register of such names shall be kept in the Ministry of Defence. |
Replacement of Medal, Star, Bar or Bar (Enhanced) |
12. If the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Defence is satisfied that a Medal, Star, Bar or Bar (Enhanced) has been lost or destroyed, he may replace it upon payment by the person entitled to it of a sum sufficient to cover the cost of the replacement. |
Forfeiture of Medal, Star, Bar or Bar (Enhanced) |
13.—(1) The Armed Forces Council may forfeit any Medal, Star, Bar or Bar (Enhanced) awarded to any person under these Rules, if the person ––

14.—(1) The Singapore Armed Forces Overseas Service Medal Rules 2006 (G.N. No. S 568/2006) are revoked.
